Consistency is key to taking on projects with a long lifetime. It isn’t how hard you can work at any given time, but how well you can stick to your plan. Over the last two months I’ve been focusing on my health. As of this morning I’ve lost 24.4 pounds and have a resting heart rate in the low 50s. I’m super happy with my progress, but I’m even more happy with how consistent I’ve been. I haven’t been perfect, just consistent; originally my goal was to run for 30min plus do weight lifting 6 days a week. Realistically that happened maybe twice a week, but I did something either with exercise or healthy eating every day.
It’s really easy to start on a big project, but it is much harder to finish it. With code it means committing every day. With health it means always getting lettuce on your burrito instead of cheese. The biggest rewards are always achieved by consistently moving projects forward and slowly amazing things can happen.
